Time Commitment

Successful applicants must be available to compete for the whole duration of these events in 2025:

Compulsory Events

Off-Ice Workshops: There will be 3-4 off-ice workshops around January - March, where YDP athletes learn and discuss various aspects of the game that do not require the ice. Such as technical theory / basics, strategy, communication, nutrition, mental strength, team dynamics.

Interclub Competition & Training Camp: Over 5 days in the April school holidays, in Dunedin. This is a club competition between Auckland and Dunedin teams, and is a fantastic first competition and technical training camp for the Youth Development Teams.

NZ Junior Curling Championship: Date TBC, but will be around Term 3 Week 6 in August, in Dunedin. This is the ultimate competition we are working towards. All YDP athletes will be nominating themselves for selection into the NZ Junior teams, and must attend this competition.

OPTIONAL Events

(for those interested only)

Auckland Curling Club league: Sunday nights from Terms 2 to 3, 2024. This is a regular league, where you will apply skills learned into game settings with your Youth Development Team. This is a big time commitment, therefore it is not compulsory.

Various other New Zealand Championships (dates TBC): NZ Junior Mixed Doubles, NZ Mixed Doubles Qualifier, NZ Opens, Wendorf Shield.
